"The county of Bliesgau lay east of the Saargau around the river Blies which joins the river Saar at Sarreguemines, at present a town in northern Lorraine on the border with Germany. The division of Lotharingian territories agreed 8 Aug 870 between Ludwig II "der Deutsche" King of the East Franks and his half-brother Charles II "le Chauve" King of the West Franks allocated "…comitatum…Blesitchowa…Sarachowa superior…" to King Ludwig[190]. In the mid-10th century, the counties of Bliesgau and upper Saargau were administered by the Folmar family.
The name “Bliescastel” later used by this family represents a compound of “Blies” and “Castel”, the latter being a castle at Saarburg which was acquired by the family. "

" Lotharingia, an artificial political creation, was formed under the Treaty of Verdun in 843 to provide a kingdom for Emperor Lothaire I, oldest son of the Carolingian Emperor Louis I "le Pieux". It covered a wide strip of land from the North Sea coast southwards to Italy, and originally included the eastern part of present-day Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany west of the river Rhine, the French provinces of Alsace, Lorraine, Burgundy and Provence, and Switzerland and parts of northern Italy, as well as the imperial cities of Aachen, Pavia and Rome.
This chapter shows nobility in the northern part of the original kingdom of Lotharingia (approximately equivalent to present-day Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany west of the Rhine) whose counties have not been identified and who have not been connected to other noble families which are set out in full in the companion documents LOWER LOTHARINGIA NOBILITY and UPPER LOTHARINGIA NOBILITY. In addition, consult the documents BRABANT/LOUVAIN, HAINAUT, HOLLAND & FRISIA, LIMBURG, NAMUR, BAR, and LUXEMBOURG for the early nobility in those territories. The early nobility based in other parts of the original territory of the kingdom of Lotharingia (Alsace, Burgundy, Provence and northern Italy) are shown in the corresponding documents.
A useful list of early nobles in northern Lotharingia is found in the charter dated 14 Jun 877 issued by Emperor Charles II "le Chauve", presumably written with his own death in mind, which names "Arnulfus comes, Gislebertus, Letardus, Matfridus, Widricus, Gotbertus, Adalbertus, Ingelgerus, Rainerus" as those willing to support the emperor's son if he travels across the river Meuse[638]. Of these, "Gislebertus" can be identified as the ancestor of the later rulers of Brabant and Louvain, "Letardus" as the ancestor of the Comtes de Huy, "Matfridus" as the ancestor of the Comtes de Metz, and "Widricus" as the possible ancestor of the comtes in the Ardennes. The others (listed below) have not yet been linked to any geographic territory or any later noble family."

"Vanderkindere states that the county of Moha, whose territory was situated on the right bank of the river Mehaigne within the pagus of Hesbaie, was originally a seigneurie which adopted the status of a county because it was held by the counts of Dachsburg in Alsace[870]. It was not one of the four original counties which developed in the pagus of Hesbaie nor a pagus itself. The county of Moha was discussed by Daris in 1872[871]. The seigneurs de Moha are shown in this document until the acquisition by Albert [II] of the counties of Egisheim and Dachsburg as a result of his marriage with the heiress of those counties. Later counts of Moha are shown in the document ALSACE. After the death in 1212 of the last count of Dachsburg and Egisheim of the family of the seigneurs de Moha, his territories were inherited by his nephew Henri I Duke of Brabant, as shown by the undated charter under which "Adelbertus…comes Metensis et de Dasbourch" appointed "nepotem meum ducem Lotharingiæ" as his heir "de castro meo Dasbourgh et abbatia de Hessen, de castro Gerbaden, abbatia de Altorf, de castro de Drotein, de castro Albapai, de abbatia et advocatia de Herbreheym…comitatu et advocatia…de Metis…allodium de Musal et Waleve"[872]. Prior to this, Moha had been claimed by the counts of Looz as well as the dukes of Brabant, a settlement of the dispute being agreed in 1197, the date of a charter under which "Henricus dux Lotharingiæ et marchio et…Luduicus comes de Lon" agreed to divide "terram de Mussal" if "comes de Dasborc" died without heirs[873]. This latter arrangement was presumably superseded by the testament which appointed the duke of Brabant as sole heir to Moha"
