"References to named counts in Barcelona are recorded from 827, although it has not proved possible to establish a chronological list of succession of these counts until the installation of Guifré [I] "el Pilós/el Velloso/the Hairy" in 878. Guifré´s descendants established themselves firmly as rulers of the county of Barcelona. Guifré´s family extended its influence to the territory of most of the early Catalonian counties. His father, Seniofredo, conquered Cerdanya and Urgell in the 830s, Guifré´s brother Miro is recorded as comte de Roussillon and also as comte de Besalú i Cerdanya, and Guifré himself was also recorded as count in Girona and Osona. The descendants of Guifré continued to expand their territories, the most important gains being made in the 12th century. Ramon Berenguer [III] Comte de Barcelona became Comte de Besalú following the death of his son-in-law in 1111, Comte de Provence by right of his third wife in 1113, conquered Mallorca from the Moors 1114-1115 (although he lost it shortly afterwards), and Comte de Cerdanya in 1117. His son Ramon Berenguer [IV] established the federal state of Aragon/Catalonia when he married the Aragonese heiress Petronila, daughter of Ramiro II King of Aragon. The descendants of this couple are shown in the document ARAGON KINGS. "

Although the patronymic of his son Garcia indicates his father's name, Settipani states that there is no proof that Sancho was related to the previous dukes of Gascony who are shown above[82]. " According to Le Laboureur, Rothilde was the daughter of a vicomte de Brosse (unnamed), although Settipani has pointed out that no primary source reference is quoted in his work to support this statement and suggests that it may be based on an unsound conclusion drawn because the castle of Brosse was held by Rothilde’s descendants and is later recorded as a vicomté[7]. "Hildegarius Lemovicensium pontifex" granted privileges to Uzerche, naming "genitore meo…domno Geraldo vicecomite necnon et genetrice mea Rotilde…" by charter dated to [970/86][8]. "Rotildis vicecomitissa" donated "mansum…a Monsor…in vicaria Usercensi" to Uzerche, for the souls of "Archambaldi senioris mariti mei" who had given this property to her and "Geraldi vicecomitis senioris mei", by charter dated to [Jul 987/988], witnessed by "filii eiusdem Rothildis, Aldegarius episcopus, Guido, Geraldus, Alduinus abbas et cæteri filii…"[9]. Possible family connections of Rothilde’s first husband are suggested by the charter dated to [1003/36] under which "Rotbertus de Chatmart et Gaufredus frater eius…Ermesindis et Belieldis uxores eorum, Ebolus et Guido et Geraldus filii Gaufredi, Arcambaldus et Geraldus filii Rotberti" donated property in "manso de Monsor" to Uzerche[10], the connection being "Monsor" [Moussours near Uzerche]. m firstly ARCHAMBAUD, son of ---. m secondly GERAUD Vicomte de Limoges, son of HILDEGAIRE Vicomte de Limoges & his wife Thiberge --- ([905/10]-988).] "
